Full Description

SK 1760 7417: Wardlow Hay, flint and stone implements. A ground greenstone adze/polished axe, was found with a flint core, two scrapers and thirteen flakes, in July 1963 in a freshly ploughed field to the west of Wardlow Hay, on the edge of Cressbrook Dale (SK 177744). Now in Sheffield City Museum. (1) The owner of the land indicated that the field centred at SK 1760 7417 was the only field in this area to be ploughed in 1963. He knew nothing of the finds. No further information. (2) The axe/adze is also listed as being of flint. These finds may indicate the presence of a Neolithic settlement. (3)
