Full Description

The site of a demolished 19th century lime kiln. The site was in an isolated location. All traditional buildings have been lost. (1-4) Chelmorton was one of the great lime-burning parishes and the village is characterised by large numbers of collapsed limekilns now marked only by shallow depressions usually with no structural remains. Several of them are visible from the crossroads at the south end of the village at SK 110 696, with a particularly good example at SK 110 694 to the west of the road to Pomeroy Cottages on the A515.
