Full Description

An Iron foundry is shown on the 1884 1st edition OS map. On the map the foundry appears to have lain on on a canal basin associated with canal that went out of use in the late 1830s when the area was developed by the Midland Railway Companies. It is not known whether the foundry predates the redevelopment of the 1840s. Some time in the early C20th the foundry was incorporated into the works of William Bemrose and Son the printers who operated on the site until the 1970s.
