From the National Heritage List for England:
'SK 18 SW PARISH OF CASTLETON MARKET PLACE 6/39 (South West Side) Castle Close Cottage GV II
Cottage. Late C18 and earlier. Rubblestone with gritstone dressings. Stone and Welsh slate roof. Stone, gable end stack. Two storeys. North elevation - central doorway with stone surround. Panelled door. Flanked on each side by 2-light square section flush mullion windows. Two similar windows above. Inside, two pairs of raised crucks are partly visible and together with the thickness of the walls, suggest an earlier date.
