Full Description

Buried land surface and medieval finds, No. 5 George Street, Derby, possibly evidence of 14th to 16th century occupation. During a watching brief carried out over groundworks associated with an extension to the rear of the property, '…an old buried land surface was found to be rich in charcoal and also containing fragmentary animal bone and broken tile. The tile has been dated to the later medieval period as probably 14th to 16th century but possibly 15th to 16th century.' The excavators noted that because of the small size of the excavation area, it was not possible to determine that the finds were in situ or residual, or necessarily related to the land surface. (1)
