Full Description
Ditches, trackway and other features, Elnor Lane Farm, Buxton Road, Whaley Bridge, of post medieval date.
A number of archaeological features were recorded during an evaluation carried out in 2017. Trench 2 revealed a ditch on the same alignment of field boundary depicted on the 1882 OS map and previously identified through geological survey. No datable material was found, however the ditch was truncated by later land-drainage activity. Trenches 3 and 4 crossed a modern trackway that passed through the south-western part of proposed development area, which had been interpreted as overlying the course of the Buxton to Manchester Roman road. In both trenches a shallow linear ditch feature was also revealed. Features associated with past mining activity were also recorded in the northern part of the proposed development area. (1)
