Full Description

Section of wall, Ballidon Quarry, Ballidon, part of a late 19th century enclosure. A drawn and photographic record of this wall was carried out in 2006, in advance of its proposed removal from the site. It is not clear if it was dismantled: 'The wall is constructed from local Carboniferous Limestone and is likely to be an early enclosure wall. Its first record is on a map dating to c1880. Much of the early enclosure in the Peak District took place at the very end of the 18th century and early decades of the 19th largely in response to a need to increase agricultural production brought on by the demands of the Napoleonic Wars.'
