Full Description

A Roman Catholic school, built for the local Roman Catholic community that was fostered by the Pole or Poole of the nearby Spinkhill Hall in the 17th century. The school was probably a primary school and was built in stone in the gothic revival style. It was constructed in 1853-4 to the design of the notable architect Joseph Aloysius Hansom (who introduced the Hansom cab) who was also involved in designing the nearby Roman Catholic Church and Mount St Mary's College. A schoolmaster's dwelling was located to the east of the school. Several 20th builtings are located to the rear of the 19th century building. (1)
