Full Description

Former stable block to Alfreton Hall, Church Street, Alfreton, an early 19th century complex. From the National Heritage List for England: 'SK 40 55 NE ALFRETON CHURCH STREET (north side) 8/7 Former stableblock to Alfreton Hall 13.7.66 GV II Stableblock and coach house, now farmbuildings. Early C19 with minor later alter- ations. Ashlar with hipped slate roof plus corniced stone ridge stacks and moulded eaves cornice. 2 storeys, 3 bay central block with single storey wings. U-plan. Central block has 3 segment headed archways with tooled radiating voussoirs and Raised impost bands, double panelled doors to each opening. Plain stringcourse to first floor and above 3 2-light casement windows below large lintels and with projecting sills. Wing attached to west has 5 blind semicircular arches with semi- circular headed openings within, 3 westernmost bays set at right angles projecting south. Opening nearest the central block and to centre of angled part have fixed windows with glazing bars, other openings have panelled doors and fanlights with glazing bars. Wing to east has 7 bays, 5 at right angles to south. Two bays nearest the central block have C20 doors inserted. Bays at right angles have 4 semicircular blind openings with inserted flat headed opening between northern bays and window between southern bays, other openings with panelled doors and fan- lights. West wing has original stalls and one room in east wing has re-set early C18 fire surround and C17 and early C18 panelling. Listing NGR: SK4068055818.' )
