Holly House Special School, Holly Close, Chesterfield, an early 19th century building.

'CHURCH STREET NORTH 1. 5169 (West Side) Whittington Holly House SK 3875 7/178

2. Early C19. Coursed stone with quoins and hipped slate roof. Main facade faces south. 2 storeys. 3 windows, band at 1st floor. Sashes with engraved lintels and reeded keystones. West side has large square bay, all windows with glazing bars except bottom lights of bay sashes. Centre door with Doric doorcase, mutules, engaged pillars and open pediment. Cobweb fanlight. Later glazing to top door panels. Western or entrance facade, 2 Windows south 1st floor blank. Off centre segmental arched window between floors with Gothic glazing bars. North side has canted bay, all sashes with glazing bars. Small polygonal, 1 storey addition to north. Interior - some alterations, but retains arch across hall and elliptical arches between hall and side rooms (eastern arch now altered). Good moulded plaster ceilings in hall and western ground floor room which also has musical instruments in low relief moulding above the doors. Lions head masks and as medallions above reeded architraves to ground floor doorcases. 6 panelled doors. Good staircase with 2 turned balusters on each step with carved bracket below. Symmetrical treatment of fireplace, corner cupboards and sashes inside polyonal addition.
