Full Description
Former site of L-shaped farm building, to rear of No. 61 Court Street, Swadlincote, a 19th century building.
A watching brief and following focused excavation uncovered the remains of two brick farm buildings, forming an L-shape which matches the 1st edition OS 25" mapping c 1880. The buildings enclosed a courtyard. The '…artefacts from levelling deposits underneath the floors within Building A indicate the deliberate deposition of materials from a nearby pottery works. The pottery from these contexts dated between the 18th and 20th centuries. The eastern building, Building B, appears to have been utilised as agricultural sheds containing concrete flooring and exposed drainage runs. Sparse remains of yard surface were also identified.' (1)
