Terrace of eight colliery workers cottages. c1891-4, possibly by Brewill & Baily. Red brick with some ashlar dressings. Welsh slate roof with decorative ridge cresting. Brick ridge stacks. Two storeys and attics. Decorative first floor band, and saw tooth eaves cornice. Treated as symmetrical pairs, each pair stepped slightly up the hill side, expressed in the roof levels. Each pair has two 3-light casement windows in ashlar surrounds, flanked by doorways with ashlar lintels, panelled doors and overlights. Two 2-light cross casements above, under stop chamfered ashlar lintels. Pair of gabled dormers above again with 2- light casements under chamfered ashlar lintels. Casements have small pane glazing. Walls attached to rear, enclosing back yards. The houses form part of the 'Model Village' built by the Bolsover Colliery Company to house its workforce, following enlightened Garden Suburb principles of planning and design.
