Full Description

St Mary's House, Castle Street, Old Bolsover, Old Bolsover, an early 19th century building. From the National Heritage List for England: 'SK 4771 TOWN OF OLD BOLSOVER CASTLE STREET 16/59 (West Side) 5.7.65 St Mary's House (The School House) II House. Early and late C19. Rubble sandstone with sandstone dressings and quoins. Hipped Welsh slate roof with lateral stone stacks. Two storeys. Three bay east elevation has two full height canted bays, each with a 3-light gothic window to each floor. Moulded hoodmoulds, intersecting glazing bars. The centre bay has a gothic doorway with polygonal colonnettes and moulded hoodmould. Panelled door. Single lancet window above. Three-bay rear elevation with chamfered angles. Pointed arched doorway flanked by pointed arched windows with Y-tracery. The first floor has a central lancet flanked by 2-light windows with Y-tracery. The interior has the remains of an open string stick baluster staircase. Listing NGR: SK4715470514.' (1)
