Full Description

SK 164 803: Top Cave, Flint Flake: Cave site dug by R. Pennigton in 1872. Some pot-beaker sherds and some bones were found. (1, 2, 7, 10) Cave dug by J. Boyd Dawkins and J. Tym in 1877. The teeth of wholly rhinoceros and bear were found. (2, 10) Excavation of this cave by A. L. Pill in 1961-1962 yielded one flint flake. (9) [One of] three caves and a fissure were to known to have produced archaeological remains. One of these caves may correspond to an imprecisely located cave in Hartle Dale that yielded remains of Pleistocene mammals. (1, 12) One of three caves in this area, see SMR 7602 and 7604. It is unclear whether these excavations took place at this cave or one of the other two. (13)
