Full Description
Pits, wall, sewer and features, No. 18 Agard Street, Derby, of 19th century date.
Extensive 19th century features were recorded during an evaluation that was carried out in 2022: 'Large 19th century pits were found in ...and these may have been excavated to quarry the natural river gravels. All of the pits were filled with the same type of deposit and this resembled the overburden. It is likely the pits were open features when the overburden was added during the early 19th century. A brick wall was found ...which may relate to structures depicted on the 1835 map. Evidence of a later 19th century building was also... To the east of the building was a 19th century service and to the west was a brick man-hole [sic] and 19th century sewer. ...All the features date to the 19th century and the results from the evaluation suggest that if any earlier activity was present on the site, the subsequent terracing and building works is likely to have removed it.'
