Full Description

Railway bridge, Dale Hill, South Wingfield, built c1840. From the National Heritage List for England: 'SK 35 NE PARISH OF SOUTH WINGFIELD MATLOCK ROAD 2/l18 Railway Bridge to the south east of Dale Bridge GV II Railway bridge. c1840 for the North Midland Railway Company. Regularly coursed rock faced gritstone with ashlar dressings. Single arch bridge with rusticated ashlar to arch, and arch spandrels. Above the arch, a boldly projecting continuous roll moulding with a shallow plain ashlar parapet above, now with C20 metal railings. Brick lining to arch rises from projecting moulded plinthband, which is returned onto the arch facings, separating the ashlar work from the rock-faced masonry below. Splayed ends to parapet walls, terminating in half-octagon piers. Listing NGR: SK3866956368.' (1)
