High Bridge, Trent and Mersey Canal, Egginton, built c1777. From the National Heritage List for England: 'PARISH OF EGGINTON DERBY ROAD SK 22 NE 2/14 (East Elide) 14.8.79 High Bridge, High Hargate GV II Bridge carrying a track over the Trent and Mersey Grand Trunk Canal. cl777. James Brindley engineer. Red brick with sandstone dressings. Later red and blue brick repair. Single segmental arch with dripmould. The walls curve out at the ends to end piers. Plain parapet walls ramped to centre and with stone copings. Above the arch on each side is an oval metal plaque bearing the number of the bridge, 26. The Trent and Mersey Grand Trunk Canal was sanctioned by an act of 1766, opened to a point near Stafford in 1770 and completed in 1777. Listing NGR: SK2725827408.' (1)
