Full Description

Former Porter's Lodge, Baslow Road, Bakewell, a mid-19th century building. From the National Heritage List for England: 'BAKEWELL SK2169 BASLOW ROAD 831-1/3/18 (East side) 20/05/74 Newholme Hospital Porters' Lodge GV II Porters' lodge. c1841 as part of Bakewell Union Workhouse. Coursed limestone with sandstone dressings, concrete tile roof. EXTERIOR: small single-storey rectangular block. Punched quoins; chamfered ashlar window surrounds to diamond-pane iron casements with centre-pivot openers. C20 part-glazed door in chamfered surround to left; single-light window then a shallow gabled projection with 2 single-light windows and gable slit. Front and end gables have shaped kneelers and copings; rebuilt ridge stack and front gable stack. Right return faces drive to Newholme Hospital (qv) and has door to right of a 3-light mullioned window with leaded lights; gable slit. INTERIOR: not inspected. Listing NGR: SK2197269126.' (1)
