Full Description

Ridge and furrow, and field boundaries, off Lower Somercotes, Alfreton, of possible medieval date. Furrows, largely corresponding to linear anomalies recorded by an earlier geophysical survey, were recorded by excavation during trial trenching in 2022: 'At the north-western part of site, the evaluation recorded two features..., correlating with the anomalies previously depicted on the geophysical survey, with a very slight sinuous form associated with medieval ploughing techniques. One boundary ditch in Trench 3, on the same broad alignment as the other six medieval field boundaries recorded within the site cartographic sources [was also found].' (1) Extensive and consistent linear anomalies were recorded by a geophysical survey carried out in 2018. (2)
