Nos. 1-2 High Street, Whitwell, an 18th century building. From The national Heritage List for England: 'SK 57 NW PARISH OF WHITWELL HIGH STREET 2/169 (South Side) 26.8.65 The Old George Inn (formerly listed as George Hotel) GV II Coaching inn, now divided into flats. C18. Coursed squared sandstone with sandstone dressings. Hipped Welsh slate roof with two ashlar ridge stacks. Two storeys. Symmetrical north elevation of four bays. Central doorway with keyed moulded doorcase and hoodmould. Pair of panelled doors. Flanked by C20 top hung casements under plain lintels, and flanked in turn by glazing bar sashes under similar lintels. Four similar windows above, the two centre ones C20 casements and the outer ones glazing bar sashes. Three roof dormers, with small pane glazing and flat roofs. Listing NGR: SK5272076780.' (1)
