Full Description

The Malthouse, No. 1 High Road, South Wingfield, a mid-18th century building. From the National Heritage List for England: 'SK 3755 PARISH OF SOUTH WINGFIELD HIGH ROAD 5/95 (West Side) Malthouse Farmhouse and boundary wall to east GV II Farmhouse. Mid C18. Coursed rubble coal measures sandstone with quoins, coped gables with moulded kneelers, end ridge stacks of brick, and a plain tiled roof. Double pile plan. Three storeys, three bays, formerly with flush mullioned windows not with mullions removed, and C20 frames set in flush stone surrounds. Central doorway with moulded stone doorcase, moulded cornice above, and a plank door. Rear wall of building retains 2-light flush mullioned windows. Attached boundary wall of coursed squared blocks with a saddleback coping, stepped, with curved copings as risers. Central gateway with plain gateposts and cast iron gate. Cast iron railings to wall north of gateway, with urn finials. Listing NGR: SK3761355572.' (1)
