The Crown Hotel and No. 32 Main Road, Shirland and Higham, an 18th century building. From the National Heritage List for England: 'PARISH OF SHIRLAND & HIGHAM MAIN ROAD 38/39 59 38/39 58 6/55 (East Side) The Crown Hotel and No 32, 8-7-71 Higham (formerly listed as 'The Crown Hotel, Cottage to north of Crown Hotel, No 32, Cottage to south of No 32, Main Street Higham) GV II Four cottages, now public house. C18 with C19 refronting and C20 rear additions. Coursed squared gritstone. Gritstone dressings and quoins. C20 plain tile roofs. Stone stacks to north gable end and two ridge stacks. Two brick stacks to south. Stone coped gables with moulded kneelers to No 32 to the south. Two storeys, six bays. To south, flush doorcase with horizontal sliding sashes either side. To north, flush quoined doorcase with plain sashes either side in flush surrounds. Between door and southern window, a four stepped mounting block. Beyond, to north, inserted doorcase with two glazing bar sashes in flush surrounds beyond. To extreme north another flush quoined doorcase . All doors C20. Above, glazing bar sash to north, three plain sashes in flush surrounds to south, with two C20 windows beyond in No 32. Interior mainly altered but has chamfered beams, bracketed stone fireplace to ground floor. First floor room to rear late C18 with Venetian window to north and a pair of stone fireplaces with moulded mantle pieces over lintels with concave upper corners. Listing NGR: SK3903258935.' (1)
