Full Description

Toll Cottage, Edale Road, Hope, an early 19th century building. 'Early 19th century single storey gritstone cottage with quoins and a stone slate roof.' (1) 'No structure is indicated at the suggested NGR on SK 18 SE. [1995]' (2) From the National Heritage List for England: 'SK 18 SE PARISH OF HOPE EDALE ROAD 7/76 (East Side) 17.1.75 Toll Cottage II Toll cottage. c1800. Coursed gritstone with gritstone dressings. Stone slate roof with one stone gable end stack. Angle quoins. Two storeys, but single storey to west as road is embanked. West elevation with central doorway with Tudor arched lintel and heavy stone surround and C20 studded door. Flanked on each side by small paned fixed lights in flush stone surrounds. East elevation with garage doors and doorway to ground floor and three 2-light square section mullion windows above. Listing NGR: SK1704884090.' (3)
