Full Description

Three Arches, Near Lodge Drive, Belper, built c1805. Three arches, believed to have been built between 1791 and 1805, and to have once belonged to or enabled the creation of a laundry drying area at the rear of the former Bridge Hill conservatory, survive as part of the standing building to the rear of Archways and Tudor Lodge, near the western end of Lodge Drive. (1) They may have been built at any time after 1791 when the hillside was purchased and terraced by the Strutt family, and before they are shown on the Strutt Estate map of 1805. (1) These arches are similar to the nearby arches leading to a former ice house to the rear of Bridge Hall House.
