The Retreat House, off Church Lane, Morley, an early 18th century building. From the National Heritage List for England: 'PARISH OF MORLEY CHURCH LANE SK 34 SE 1/84 (North Side) 2.9.52 The Retreat House (formerly listed as The Rectory) GV II Rectory, now retreat house. Early C18, mid-C18 and early C19. Red brick with minimal stone dressings. Plain tile roofs. Brick gable stacks and a stack rising between two roofs. Dentil eaves cornice and moulded stone eaves cornice. Double range plan. Three storeys. Six bay south elevation. Symmetrical five bays with additional bay to east. Central doorway with moulded stone doorcase, with pulvinated frieze and bracketed pediment. Half glazed door, flanked on each side by two glazing bar sashes with small stone keyblocks. Plain brick stringcourse linking the keyblocks. The first floor has a central round- window with key and impost blocks and a glazing bar sash. Flanked on each side by two glazing bar sashes under flat keyed arches. The third floor is of half height and has a central bull's eye window with keyblocks at the cardinal points. Flanked on each side by two glazing bar sashes under keyed flat arches. The additional bay to the east is slightly lower and has two glazing bar sashes. All the windows have stone sills. The west elevation has first and second floor brick bands, irregular, partly blocked, fenestration, and visible evidence in the brickwork of the mid-C18 refronting and raising. The north elevation has irregular projections with mostly early C19 fenestration. The interior has two flight return staircase with turned balusters. One front room on the ground floor with painted raised and fielded panelling. One upper room has an early C18 painted stone chimneypiece. Listing NGR: SK3969640881.' (1)
