Full Description

Beech Cottage, Castle Street, Bakewell, a late 18th or early 19th century building. From the National Heritage List for England: 'BAKEWELL SK2168 CASTLE STREET 831-1/4/77 (West side) 20/05/74 Beech Cottage (Formerly Listed as: CASTLE STREET Beech Cottage) (Formerly Listed as: CASTLE STREET Rural District Council Depot (Building adj. south end of Beech Cottage only)) GV II House and outbuilding (combined into enlarged dwelling in 1994). Late C18-early C19. Mixed limestone and sandstone rubble; stone slate roofs. EXTERIOR: house: 2 storeys, 3-window range; outbuilding under same roof to left is of similar length; single-storey wing attached to front right of house. Large quoins. Dressed stone surrounds with painted projecting stone sills. 4-panel door with 2/2 sash to left and squat 12/12 sash on right. First floor has 3 8/8 sashes. Ashlar end stacks with bands and cornices. Single-storey wing is ashlar-faced with boarded door and casement window beneath eaves of monoclinal roof. INTERIOR: not inspected. Outbuilding to left of house has blank front wall (French window opening of 1994). Listing NGR: SK2183768710.' (1)
