Terrace walls, steps and gateways, Holme Hall, Holme Lane, Bakewell, of 17th and 18th century date. From the National Heritage List for England: 'BAKEWELL SK2169 HOLME LANE 831-1/3/108 (North side (off)) 20/05/74 Terrace walls with associated steps and gateways to east of Holme Hall (Formerly Listed as: HOLME Garden Walls and Gate Piers at Holme Hall) GV II Terrace walls with steps and gateways. C17 and C18. Coursed limestone and ashlar sandstone. South-facing retaining wall approximately 3.5m in height and 50m in length which supports a paved terrace walk given access by an archway and steps at rear-right corner of Holme Hall (qv). Slightly lower terrace back wall is pierced by a round-arched gateway near the house and by a feature gateway further east; from the latter opening is a clear view of the Gazebo (qv) (on the same axis to south was formerly a flight of steps to the lawned garden). Archway at west end of lower wall has plinth, moulded imposts and rusticated arch flanked by keyed oeil-de-boeuf openings; vaulted chamber within gives access to nosed steps in 3 flights with quarter-landings. Round-arched gateway in upper terrace wall has wooden gate giving access to a flight of steps under a slab roof; beyond are more steps and a pair of gate piers with pyramidal caps. Feature gateway has wooden gates in a chamfered quoined opening with round arch and hoodmould; round-arched ashlar parapet with square sundial dated 1806, moulded copings and pierced C17-style finials; vaulted chamber within has flight of steps which lead to a pair of gatepiers on the approach to the Gazebo.
