Full Description

Stile, Mill Street, Bakewell, of early 19th century date. From the National Heritage List for England: 'BAKEWELL SK2168 MILL STREET 831-1/4/137 (East side) 20/05/74 Stile between Bridge over Mill Tailrace and Milford House Hotel (Formerly Listed as: MILL STREET (North side) Stile between Bridge over Mill Tailrace and Milford House) GV II Stile. Probably early C19. Gritstone pillars, limestone walling. A pair of offset pillars with short sections of rubble wall attached; rounded gritstone copings. Restricts the opening to the footpath on south side of tailrace to Victoria Mill, Buxton Road (qv). The stump of a chamfered pillar at the mouth of the stile was removed in 1981.
