Post Office, Nos. 7-9 Portland Square, Bakewell, an early 19th century building. From the National Heritage List for England: 'BAKEWELL SK2168 PORTLAND SQUARE 831-1/4/151 (South side) 20/05/74 Nos.7, 8 AND 9 Bakewell Post Office (Formerly Listed as: WATER STREET (North side) 2 cottages at West side of Entrance to Haddon Dairy Yard) II Pair of houses now post office and shop facing Water Street. c1800. Deeply-coursed, dressed sandstone; stone slate roof. EXTERIOR: handed 2-storey pair having central doorways and one window to each house on each floor. Doorways have bonded ashlar surrounds; part-glazed, 4-panel door on right, panel with posting box and stamp machine within doorway to left. Projecting stone sills to 8/8 sashes in ashlar surrounds. Acute splay to right gable; stone end stack. INTERIOR: not inspected. Listing NGR: SK2187868502.' (1)
