Full Description

Aldern House, Baslow Road, Bakewell, an early 19th century building. From the National Heritage List for England: 'BAKEWELL SK2169 BASLOW ROAD 831-1/3/11 (West side) 20/05/74 Aldern House (Eastern part only) II House. c1820. Ashlar sandstone, Welsh slate roof. EXTERIOR: 2 storeys, 3-window range; wing to rear. Symmetrical facade. Plinth, large quoins. Nosed steps form stylobate to Doric stone porch with plain entablature; doorway within has outer doors fixed within a corniced stone architrave with glazed inner door. To each side are canted bay windows with stop-chamfered surrounds, 1/1 sashes and cornices. First floor: 1/1 sashes in ashlar surrounds linked by lintel band set below a bold eaves cornice. Balustraded parapet with square balusters and panelled dies. Corniced ashlar end stacks. INTERIOR: stair hall has late C19 tiled floor and late C19 staircase with panelled newels, moulded handrail and balustrade of 2 mid-rails linked by spindles. Geometric ceiling panels.
