Greens Lock, Green Lane, Ilkeston, built in 1779.
From the National Heritage List for England:
'PARISH OF ILKESTON OFF GREEN LANE SK 44 SE 3/34 (East Side) Green's Lock II
Lock chamber and leat. 1779 by John Varley, the engineer to the Erewash Canal, with later repairs. Red brick and gritstone, partly rebuilt in engineering brick and concrete. Timber and iron gates. The chamber has been little rebuilt, brick and gritstone side walls with gritstone copings. Iron steps with tubular rails, on either side. Pair of wooden gates at either end have iron reinforced balance beams and tubular iron handrails across the top. Rack and pinion operated paddle mechanism. To the side of each gate is a concrete semi-circle with foot grips. The leat runs to the west of the lock.
