PARISH OF CASTLETON CASTLE STREET SK 18 SW 6/30 (West Side) 25.10.51 Castleton Hall GV II House. Early and later C18. Coursed limestone with cement rendered dressings. Welsh slate roofs, one pitch with stone slates. Four stone ridge stacks and two gable end stacks. Two storeys. L-plan, the main part double pile. Angle quoins. East elevation of seven bays, plus one bay and a three bay return front to north. Baroque facade with bold classical details. Central doorway with massive plain stone surround, panelled door and glazed overlight. Flanked on each side by casement windows with fixed upper lights. Set in heavy stone surrounds with keystones and pediments. First floor band linking the lintels. Three windows above with stone surrounds, aprons and triplets of keystones. Centre three bays affirmed by giant pilasters. Outer two bays on each side with ground floor windows with stone surrounds with keystones overlapping a first floor band. Similar windows above without keystones but with plain brackets. Whole facade surmounted by a coved cornice and parapet.
