Derby Road Methodist Church, Long Eaton, built c1903. From the National Heritage List for England: 'PARISH OF LONG EATON DERBY ROAD SK 43 SE 4/20 (North Side) Christ Church Methodist Church 30.5.80 (formerly listed as 'Wesley Methodist Church') GV II Methodist church. 1903-4 by Brewell and Bailey, altered internally c1980. Art Nouveau Gothic style. Tooled ashlar with moulded plinth to tower and plain plinth elsewhere. Graduated slate roof with overhanging eaves and moulded stone copings to gables. Aisled nave with almost free-standing tower to south east corner, gabled transept bays and chancel. Four stage tower has tapering stepped buttresses up to eaves level and continuous chamfered bands between each stage. East elevation of tower has a canted full height staircase turret with narrow slit windows. South elevation has pointed central doorcase with moulded segmental head dying into deeply chamfered plain jambs, also with double studded wooden doors. To west side is a 2-light recessed and chamfered mullion window. Above, the second stage is blank except for two slit windows to west and north sides and to top of the third stage, each side has a clock face in a bracketed carved surround. Immediately above, in the fourth stage, there are 2-light pointed bell openings with hoodmoulds over and cusped ogee headed lights. Coved eaves stringcourse over and embattled parapets with embattled staircase turret to east. Gabled south elevation of nave has two 2-light recessed and chamfered mullion windows to the base of a large 5-light pointed window with reticulated tracery and major mullions to each side. To west side of window is a tall buttress and beyond is a gabled two storey vestry, set at an angle to the rest of the building, with a low embattled wall to front with a pointed doorcase similar to that in the tower. Above is a 3-light recessed and chamfered mullion window and to west side, on the ground floor, is a mullioned bay window. West elevation of the nave has a low aisle with short tapering buttresses flanking three 3-light recessed and chamfered mullion windows. Above there are three pointed windows with reticulated type tracery and hoodmoulds. Beyond to north is a gabled transept bay with a similar 5-light window flanked by tapering buttresses. Attached to chancel to north is a low addition with mullioned windows. East elevation similar to west and north elevation hidden by other buildings. Interior has extensive c1980 alterations, of the original interior the chamfered arches through to the passage-like aisles, and the similar larger arches into the transept bays survive, also the original cusped panelled pulpit and the plain nave pews. Waggon roof now obscured by lowered tile ceiling and the original gallery to south end now with glazed screen across. The organ has been dismantled and rearranged and the north end has been completely remodelled. Listing NGR: SK4839734089.' (1)
