Full Description

Bowes House, No. 57 Chapel Street, Derby, an early 19th century building. Please note that the 1st edition 25" OS map of c1880, and the 2nd edition, has the building labelled as 'Methodist Chapel' and 'Wesleyan Chapel' respectively, and there is a graveyard attached, now used as a 'sensory garden.' From the National Heritage List for England: '1. 5170 SK 43 NW 10/279B CHAPEL STREET (north side) Spondon No 57 Bowes House II GV 2. House. Early C19. Red brick with Welsh slate roof. 2 red brick gable stacks. Moulded eaves cornice. 2 storey. 3 bay. Central doorway with six panel door, with margin light overlight, wooden panelled pilaster surround with flat hood. Either side are single glazing bar sashes with painted,rusticated wedge lintels. Above 3 glazing bar sashes. To the right a simple conservatory. Listing NGR: SK4000136214.' (1)
