Stables to west of Elvaston Castle coach house, Borrowash Road, Elvaston, an early and mid-19th century building. From the National Heritage List for England: 'SK 43 SW PARISH OF ELVASTON BORROWASH ROAD 2/20 (West Side) Stables to West of Elvaston Castle Coach House GV II Stable block, now partly an office. Early and mid C19 with later alterations. Built for the Earl of Harrington. Red brick, with stone dressings to early C19 part, and brick elsewhere. Plain tile roofs with dentilled eaves except early C19 bay with hipped graduated slate roof plus moulded stone cornice. Single storey, except central gabled bay and early C19 bay to east, 14 bays in all. Advanced gabled central bay has a segment headed arch with double plank doors and a segment headed opening above flanked by diamond patterned breathers. To east there are two segment headed stable doors and two full height sliding doors and a segment headed window between. Beyond to east is the early C19 bay which has a four-centred arched doorcase with incised spandrels and returned hoodmould to south and a 2-light recessed and chamfered cross window, also with returned hoodmould, to east. Above, south and east sides have 2-light recessed and chamfered mullion windows. To west side of the central bay there are six segment headed stable doors and beyond to west there is an advanced later addition with semi- circular headed doors plus a pedimented brick bay with side pilasters.
