Chantry House and outbuilding, Church Street, Melbourne, of mid-18th century date. From the National Heritage List for England: 'SK 38/3925 PARISH OF MELBOURNE CHURCH STREET 6/103 (South Side) 18.2.71 Chantry House and Attached Outbuildings GV II House and attached outbuildings, which are partly incorporated into the house. Mid C18 house enlarged and refronted in early C19 with C20 alterations and C15 outbuildings, encased in C18 and C19, also with C20 alterations. Cruck frame outbuildings, encased in red brick and stone, with plain tile roof. Red brick house with brick and stone dressings and plain tile roof with brick gable stacks, that to west external, and stone coped gables. House has three bays and a double range plan with three storey C18 range to north and two storey early C19 range to south. Outbuildings have single storey plus attics. South front of house has stone plinth, rusticated stone quoins, plain sill band to first floor and moulded cornice with blocking course over. Central moulded doorcase has re-used C18 cornice which breaks forward to each side over the consoles and full height glazing bar sash. To either side there are similar sashes below rusticated wedge lintels with double keystones and above there are three similar windows. West gable elevation has C18 part to north with first and second floor brick bands and casement windows below flat brick arches. Pedimented doorcase to ground floor is C20. North elevation on to the street has two early C20 additions to either side and a mixture of C20 casements and glazing bar sashes between. Attached to east side the outbuildings have a plain north elevation with double plank doors to east end and two casement windows to west end with a gabled half dormer above. Interior of the house has reeded early C19 architraves to doors and a dogleg stick baluster staircase with column newel posts. Interior of outbuildings has three cruck trusses with crossed ridges, staggered purlins and high collars. Listing NGR: SK3881325057.' (1)
