Full Description

The Highways, No. 34 High Street, Repton, originally a late 17th century building. From the National Heritage List for England: 'SK 30/3127 SK 30/3126 6/59 2.9.52 PARISH OF REPTON HIGH STREET (West Elide) No 34 'The Highways' GV II House. Late C17, early C19 and 1927. Timber framed with brick infil, and brick. Plain tile roof with brick ridge and gable stacks. Box framed, extended in brick to south in early C19 and to west in 1927. Two storeys. East elevation has exposed box framing of two bays with tension braces and a link panel against the former central stack. Additional brick bay to left. Doorway at the junction of the two parts, with moulded surround and plank door. C20 gabled hood. To the left a 2-light casement window. To the right are two 2-light casements with one similar above. Three C20 gabled dormers. North gable end has exposed box framing with numbered timbers. Weatherboarded gable. Framing also exposed to west and partly interfered with by the 1927 north wing, not of special interest. The interior has exposed beams and much joinery of the 1920s of a high quality.
