Pennfield House and Attached Outbuildings, Penn Lane, Melbourne, built in the late 18th century. From the National Heritage List for England: 'SK 38/3925 PARISH OF MELBOURNE PENN LANE 6/149 (South Side) 15.6.70 Pennfield House and Attached Outbuildings GV II House and attached lace factory, now outbuildings. Late C18 and early C19. Red brick on stone plinth, with gauged brick dressings to south front and painted stone dressings to north front. Hipped slate roof with brick side wall stacks and dentilled eaves band. Three storeys and three bays plus three storey five bay outbuilding attached to east. Garden front has central doorcase with double, margin light, glazed doors and an elegant traceried fanlight below iron Gothick porch with four-centred arches to three sides, a castellated top and pierced panels to the main posts. To either side there are full height glazing bar sashes below flat brick arches and above there are three shallower, similar sashes. Above again there are three similar, smaller sashes. The top floor was added in the early C19. North street elevation has a central flush panelled door in moulded doorcase with fluted jambs and projecting hood. To either side there are glazing-bar sashes below rusticated wedge lintels with double keystones and above there are three similar, narrower sashes. Above again there are three similar smaller sashes. Attached to east there is an early C19 lace factory, also of red brick with plain tile roof plus brick coped gables, brick gable stacks and sawtooth eaves band. North elevation has rendered ground floor with C20 sliding plank doors to centre, a plank door to west and a small segment headed window to east. Above there are five segment headed 3-light small pane windows with small casements and above again there are five similar windows. The factory is attached to the house by a small early C19 wing which has a segment headed panelled door to east to ground floor and two small paned segment headed casement windows above. Interior of the house has a stick baluster staircase with column newels and early C19 reeded door surrounds with carved bosses to top corners. Listing NGR: SK3862625024.' (1)
