Full Description

Stables at Middleton Hall, Rake Lane, Middleton and Smerrill, an early 19th century building. From the National Heritage List for England: 'SK 16 SE PARISH OF MIDDLETON AND SMERRILL RAKE LANE 4/43 (South Side) Stables to Middleton Hall GV II Stable block. Early C19. Regularly coursed squared gritstone, coped gables, single ridge stack with coupled octagonal stone chimneys with moulded caps, and a Welsh slate roof. 'L'-plan. North elevation; two storeys, three bays with stepped gable to west end. Embattled square turrets rise above eaves at corners and between two shallow turret projections define bays, all with narrow lights. Three bays, window openings having stone surrounds, hood moulds with stops and Gothic glazing. 3-light chamfer mullioned window to east end first floor. South elevation to this range has large stone arch with projecting alternate- archstones and two stable doors below. Listing NGR: SK1940463082.' (1)
