The Square House, The Square, Middleton and Smerrill, a 19th century building. From the National Heritage List for England: 'The previous list date of 12.7.67 shall be added to the following items: 4/48 Civil Parish of Middleton and Smerrill ------------------------------------------------ PARISH OF MIDDLETON AND SMERRILL THE SQUARE SK 16 SE 4/48 (East Side) The Square House (formerly GV listed as Bateman Arms) II House, formerly the Bateman Arms. C19, regularly coursed gritstone, with coped gables, ridge stacks with moulded drips and stone slate roof. Two storeys, three bays, with end gables having 2-light chamfer mullioned windows with hood-moulds and stops. Cast iron casement frames with glazing bars. Refashioned central doorway with square frame recessed within segmental stone arch. Small 2-light window to north of doorway. Listing NGR: SK1959063205.' (1)
