Terrace, The Square, Middleton and Smerrill, of 19th century date. From the National Heritage List for England: 'The previous list date of 12.7.67 shall be added to the following items: 4/53 Civil Parish of Middleton and Smerrill --------------------------------------------- PARISH OF MIDDLETON AND SMERRILL THE SQUARE SK 16 SE 4/53 (West Side) Terrace of four cottages to the west of item 51 (formerly listed as (part of) range of ten cottages to the NW of road junction in middle of village) GV II Terrace of four cottages. c19. Coursed, squared gritstone, two ridge stacks, stone slate roof. Each cottage with 2-light chamfer mullioned window to ground floor, and single light opening above, in stone surrounds. Ground floor windows and stoned framed doorways have hood moulds with stops. Two cottages at east end retain plank doors. Front gardens enclosed by low limestone rubble boundary wall with half round gritstone copings and gritstone gate piers. Listing NGR: SK1952563202.' (1)
