Three cottages, The Square, Middleton and Smerrill, of late 18th and 19th century date. From the National Heritage List for England: 'SK 16 SE PARISH OF MIDDLETON AND SMERRILL THE SQUARE 4/54 (West Side) Range of three cottages, 40 metres north west of The Square House GV II Range of three cottages. Late C18 with C19 north end. Rubble and coursed rubble limestone with gritstone dressings, quoins, end ridge stacks and stone slate roof hipped at north end. 'L' plan with later extensions to rear. Two storeys, three bays, with 2-light flush mullion windows, and four-pane casements. Central window altered. Two doorways with massive surrounds and planked doors. North elevation has two window front, with flush mullions and two doorways, with stone surrounds, one now blocked to form window. Listing NGR: SK1956263237.' (1)
