Nos. 1-2 Rose Cottages, Rake Lane, Middleton and Smerrill, an early 19th century building. From the National Heritage List for England: 'This list entry was subject to a Minor Amendment on 15 August 2024 to update the name and address and reformat the text to current standards. 16 SK SE 4/40 PARISH OF MIDDLETON AND SMERRILL Middleton By Youlgrave Rose Cottages, No 1 and 2 (Formerly listed as Pair of cottages to the east of Rock Cottage, RAKE LANE) II Pair of cottages. Early C19. Roughcast rubble limestone, with plain gables, blue brick central ridge stack and stone slated roof. Two storeys, two bays, with chamfer mullioned two-light openings with hood moulds and stops. Four-paned casement frames. End doorways with stone surrounds, hood moulds and stops, and plain planked doors. C20 extension to west end. Listing NGR: SK1933363128.' (1)
