Pool Cottage and garden railings, Pool Road, Melbourne, built in 1838. From the National Heritage List for England: 'SK 38/3924 PARISH OF MELBOURNE POOL ROAD 6/155 (West Side) Pool House and Attached Garden Railings GV II House and attached garden railings, now old people's home. 1838 in Tudor style, with C20 addition. Tooled ashlar front and red brick gable walls, with stone dressings. Slate roof with pierced bargeboards to gables plus steeple finials, and two rear wall stacks with rendered, twin diamond set pots. Two storeys and three bays, each gabled. Moulded four-centred arched doorcase with incised spandrels, returned hoodmould and studded wooden door to centre and to either side, 3-light recessed and chamfered mullion windows with returned hoods. Above, to centre, there is an oriel window on moulded brackets with 2-light recessed and chamfered mullion window to front and similar single lights to sides, plus moulded cornice and lapped stone roof above. To either side, beneath the gables, the stonework projects slightly over a moulded band, and to centre there are 2-light recessed and chamfered mullion windows with returned hoods. Above, each has a slit window in the gable. East gable wall has similar windows above and below. All windows have lozenge pattern metal glazing. Rear C20 addition of no interest. Garden railings to east and north have elaborate fleur de lys finials, with scrolled brackets supporting the main posts, and stone piers to corners with moulded cornices and pyramidal copings.
