Full Description

Fern Cottage, northwest of Leam Hall, Grindleford, an 18th century building. From the National Heritage List for England: 'SK 27 NW PARISH OF EYAM WOODLANDS HAZELFORD 4/5 Fern Cottage and attached outbuilding to north east II House with attached outbuilding. Early C18 with C19 alterations. Coursed rubble gritstone with quoins, coped gables and moulded kneelers, intermediate and south west end ridge stacks, and a stone slated roof. House-part; 'L' plan with off- centre lobby entrance. Two storeys, two bays with 2-light flush mullioned windows and C19 casements. Off-centre doorway with massive lintel and surround, and plain door. Rear wing has tall 2-light flush mullioned window to first floor. Outbuilding; north east elevation; two storeys, three bays, that to north west end gabled and advanced. Central double width opening to main range, with flanking square windows, and above, taking-in doorways, all with heavy quoining to surrounds, the latter with plain boarded doors. Taking-in door to advanced gabled bay. Listing NGR: SK2332679175.' (1)
