Monument record MDR2679 - Cropmarks, Foston and Scropton/Church Broughton

Type and Period (2)

Protected Status/Designation

  • None recorded

Full Description

Series of cropmarks, mainly linear features, in the area of former airfield. They are almost certainly more extensive than shown on the aerial photographs. Cropmarks plotted on map overlay at a scale of 1:10,000. (1, 2) A comparison with the first edition OS 25" map (1881) suggests that many of these linear features may be related to field boundaries removed prior to the construction of the airfield, although at least some may be pre-enclosure features and possibly of Iron Age or Romano-British date (3)
