Full Description

A large polished stone axe was found by Mr Carr in c. 1963, on Closes Farm, Atlow. (1) Mr. Carr, who is very old, found the axe some 50 years ago [ie c. 1916] "within 100 yards of Closes Farm" - approx. SK 240489. (2) The axe is much weathered, of greenish-grey stone with some iron staining. The exact location where the axe was found is not now known. (3)
