Full Description

A grey-milky petit tranchet derivative arrowhead was found in Slipper Low field at SK 2215 5670 in 1961. At approximately SK 221 569, concentrations of flint waste flakes, 15 to 20 yards in diameter, were identified. The few artefacts that were found were away from these scatters of knapping floor in the south-west corner of the field. (1) Mesolithic cores, a graver and three scrapers were found in plough soil in the same field between March 1960 and May 1961 by F. Radford. (2) A test pit evaluation was carried out on site in 1994 prior to the construction of a bungalow. Small quantities of flint were recovered, possibly of a Mesolithic to Neolithic date. A single burnished prehistoric sherd was recovered, possibly Grimstone Ware. A slither of a green-glazed Medieval sherd was also recovered. (3)
