Full Description
Various irregularities at the base of the slope were observed from the road - they may be medieval cultivation/boundary features or possibly the site of Burton deserted medieval village. (1).
Much of the lower part of this field has lynchets and banks at the sites of removed field boundaries. They are mostly low and somewhat degraded. Many of the boundaries were present in at least 1796, the date of the earliest available map of the area . Some of these were the old township boundary between Bakewell and Over Haddon. The provisional observation made in the SMR that this area may contain the earthworks of the lost village of Burton has proved not to be the case. (2).
