Full Description

1 of a number of barrows on Calton Pastures, 4 of which were excavated by T Bateman on 02-May-1850. The barrow has been much mutilated. Large stones are visible in the structure, which is mainly earth. The Mound has been excavated to 0.4m below the present ground level. (1) Probably the barrow opened by Rooke (1779/1787). If so, it contained a small cist, a food vessel and a cremation. (10) Scheduled (11)
